The schools system is failing in methodology, curriculum, inclusion and choice. Converging technology will offer networks for always on, physically traceable, uncabled, multi functional, globally resourced and potentially collaborative transactions which will have special applications in education, offering flexibility in teaching location, time and numbers, simultaneous study and discussion and unlimited data. This could lead to a wide variety of educational development including new key skills (notably media literacy) a new role for teachers as facilitators and peer assessment. The key outcome should be personal learning plans. This is not a panacea but it offers hope.
