The Case for the Radically Simple Interface and Intelligent Information System
Discussion
6.1 For all the reasons above, people who experience a functionality gap between themselves and a standard PC-based system at the very least require:
A broadcast-like experience based on a radically simple, dialogue driven, interface and intelligent agency which adjusts the system's performance and data supply in accordance with user behaviour.
6.2 Because of the way television channels have worked until recently, there is a sense in which people think that broadcasters know about them. Of course this is not strictly true when applied to the individual; through market research broadcasters know about market segments and people tune to what they like which is offered on the basis of the research. PC-based systems offer a far greater opportunity for user profiling and the provision, through intelligent agents, of what people want. This accounts for the forward looking final component in 6.1.
